Sapri: Meeting with the group
Welcome to Sapri, the doorway to the Gulf of Policastro and a meeting point of cultures, traditions, and ancient history. Behind us rise the lush ridges of the Cilento National Park, and ahead lies the starting point of the Cammino di San Nilo, one of Southern Italy’s most captivating long-distance trails.
Meet your group, join the welcome briefing, and get your hiking gear ready.
Your adventure begins tomorrow!
From Capelli di Venere Waterfalls to Morigerat
11 km, +520m, -620m
After a delicious local breakfast, a private transfer takes us to the enchanting Capelli di Venere Waterfalls, where the Rio Bussentino flows through mossy rocks and delicate maidenhair ferns—a perfect, serene start to your trek. The trail continues across panoramic viewpoints and the historic village of Casaletto Spartano, known for its rustic homemade bread and traditional cured meats. We then move on to Tortorella and its peaceful Farneto Forest, which turns magical in autumn with colorful foliage, mushrooms, and bright pink cyclamens. We end the day in Morigerati, home to the WWF Bussento Caves Nature Reserve, an extraordinary karst world where water has sculpted deep gorges and underground rivers.
Morigerati to Caselle in Pittari: Nature, History & Karst Wonders
10km, +500m, -350m
Today we dive even deeper into the untouched landscapes of the Cilento.
A gentle descent from Morigerati leads to a scenic climb up Mount Pittari, offering views of the cliffside San Michele Hermitage, dramatically set into the rock.
Our day finishes in Caselle in Pittari, a village celebrated for its artisan culture and the lively Palio del Grano festival.
Here lies one of Italy’s most impressive karst systems, where an underground river disappears dramatically into the Bussento sinkhole—a must-see for nature and geology lovers.
From Caselle in Pittari to Rofrano: Following the Ancient Pilgrims’ Route
17km, +510m, -490m
Today we walk along part of the route on the Cammino di San Nilo once taken by pilgrims heading to Mount Gelbison, the sacred mountain of the Cilento.
It’s one of the longest yet most inspiring stages of the journey. From the high viewpoints, you may even spot the silhouette of Stromboli rising from the Tyrrhenian Sea on clear days.
Wide open wheat fields and rural scenery accompany you to Rofrano, famous for its traditional wood-fired bread, still baked here just as it was centuries ago.
From Rofrano to Montano Antilia: Exploring the Rural Soul of the Cilento
12km, +580m, - 320m
This stage winds through farmland, chestnut groves, and gentle hills that tell the story of the area’s agricultural roots.
Arriving in group in Montano Antilia, you’ll spot the traditional white “queen beans” drying in the sun—once considered the meat of the poor and still a beloved local specialty.
We're in the heart of Cilento, and our local guide will lead us on a journey rich in history, tradition, and spirituality. Its unmistakable flavors will accompany us as we explore the footsteps of San Nilo da Rossano.
We'll spend the night in the village, surrounded by a slow and authentic atmosphere.
From Montano Antilia to San Nazario: Among Ancient Monasteries and Silent Forests
17km, +400m, -730m
Today’s trail carries you through dense Mediterranean scrubland toward the historic area of the San Nazario Abbey, where San Nilo received the clerical tonsure.
Along the way, you pass the secluded Santa Cecilia Eremita Abbey, founded around 1022 and associated with the healing traditions of Italo-Greek monks who used wild herbs for remedies.
This peaceful stretch marks one of the most spiritual moments of the entire journey.
The day ends in San Nazario, a charming village set among three hills and crossed by a cool, clear stream.
Transfer to your accommodation in San Mauro La Bruca.
From San Nazario to Palinuro: Final Descent to the Sea
15km, +320m, -570m
Our last trekking day leads to the iconic Cape Palinuro, a dramatic viewpoint overlooking the Cilento coastline. From here, you can trace the entire route you walked—from the mountains down to the sea.
Palinuro, a perennial Blue Flag destination, greets us with golden beaches and crystal-clear water.
Take a well-deserved swim, relax, and enjoy the local cuisine—don’t miss the traditional fig-jam “pizzicotti”, a delicious regional treat.
Arrivederci Palinuro!
After breakfast, end of services.
Take one final moment to enjoy the views that have inspired travelers since ancient times—including the legendary Aeneas.
