Highlights

The Ligurian coastline is one of the most spectacular outdoor playgrounds in Italy: dramatic cliffs above the sea, terraced vineyards, ancient footpaths, and colorful fishing villages.
The Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offer an extraordinary environment for hikers and active travelers who want to combine nature, culture, and adventure, always accompanied by a professional guide.
Our base for the entire week is Sestri Levante, the charming “town of two bays”, perfectly located to reach the best trails of the Cinque Terre and the Portofino Natural Park. Each day features a new coastal or mountain route, walking between iconic villages such as Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore, Portovenere, Camogli and Portofino.

Transfers are done on foot and by short train rides, allowing the group to fully enjoy the landscape without logistical worries.

Program

Day1

Arrival in Sestri Levante & Group Welcome

Individual arrival in Sestri Levante, the perfect starting point for our hiking adventure across the Cinque Terre and the Riviera di Levante.
Take your time to explore this charming seaside town before enjoying dinner and an overnight stay.

Day2

Bonassola to Monterosso: Tunnels, Cliffs & Mediterranean Scenery

10,5km, +370m -370m

Our first day of Cinque Terre hiking starts with a short train ride to Bonassola, a picturesque coastal village.
From here, we follow the scenic seaside cycling and walking path carved into the cliffs. Once an early 1900s railway line, it now offers tunnels, balconies over the sea, and unforgettable views, leading us smoothly to Levanto.
We continue on foot toward Monterosso, walking through Mediterranean vegetation, lemon groves, and olive trees. After reaching Punta Mesco and the ancient Hermitage of Sant’Antonio, we descend toward the beach of Monterosso.
In the late afternoon, we return by train to Sestri Levante.

Day3

Classic Cinque Terre Hike: Monterosso – Vernazza – Corniglia

8,5km, +380m -380m

After breakfast we take the train to Monterosso and begin one of the most iconic Cinque Terre coastal hikes.
We climb through olive groves and terraced vineyards until the trail opens onto an impressive view of Vernazza. As we descend, the pastel-colored village and the Doria Castle appear in full beauty. We explore its narrow alleys and tiny harbour, where the small beach invites us to cool off.
The trail from Vernazza to Corniglia climbs again to Punta Palma and the hamlet of Prevo, then softens through cultivated fields and flowering meadows. Finally, we reach Corniglia, perched dramatically on a rocky cliff, and enjoy its panoramic terrace.
We return to Sestri Levante by train for dinner and rest.

Day4

Corniglia, Volastra & Manarola: Hiking Through Terraced Vineyards

8km, +550m -550m

We take the morning train to Corniglia, the only Cinque Terre village not directly on the sea. Starting from the ancient Church of San Pietro, we follow one of the most panoramic hiking trails in the Cinque Terre, where we can also taste local wines—including the famous Vernaccia di Corniglia.
We hike along the Sanctuary Trail, climbing through forest and centuries-old vineyard terraces until reaching Volastra. A gentle downhill path then brings us to Manarola, a postcard-perfect village nestled between rock and sea. Here we can relax on the cliffs, take a dip, and enjoy local products between the sea and the alleyways.
Return to the hotel.

Day5

Riomaggiore to Portovenere: The Most Spectacular Route

13km, +640m -640m

Today we hike one of the most breathtaking routes of our Liguria trekking tour.
From Riomaggiore, we climb the historic Via Grande toward the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montenero, walking along traditional creuze—narrow stone paths—and passing small shrines dedicated to the Madonna.
The trail continues along the ridge to Campiglia, before descending towards the sea and opening onto spectacular views of Portovenere.
We enter the village through the medieval gate and wander its narrow alleys until reaching the dramatic Church of San Pietro, perched on a rocky promontory. Nearby, we visit the area of the famous Byron’s Grotto.
From Portovenere, we return to Sestri Levante for overnight stay.

Day6

Camogli, San Fruttuoso & Portofino: The Heart of the Park

11km, +690m -690m

Our final hike leads us through the Portofino Natural Park, one of the most stunning coastal trekking areas in Italy.
From Camogli we climb to San Rocco, overlooking the Gulf of Paradise, then enter the forested trails of the park. We descend toward the iconic Abbey of San Fruttuoso, reachable only by foot or by sea. Here we can admire the bay and, for snorkeling lovers, the famous Christ of the Abyss, a bronze statue resting on the seabed.
The final stop takes us to Portofino, the pearl of the Riviera, for a stroll in the famous piazzetta.
Return with the group by train.

Day7

Bye-bye Sestri Levante!

After breakfast, final farewells to the guide and the rest of the group.

The self-guided walking holiday in the Cinque Terre and Portofino winds mainly through dirt paths and country lanes; rarely, and only when strictly necessary, on busy roads.

The itinerary is designed to offer a combination of nature and culture, while providing a good level of comfort.
We recommend to wear comfortable walking shoes and to bring with you a hat, trekking poles (strongly recommended), drinking water, sun cream, swimsuit and a waterproof jacket in case of rain.
