Program
Benvenuti ad Alberobello
Welcome to the City of Trulli: ancient rural buildings with conical shape, each distinguished by strange symbols and pinnacles of various forms.
Piazza Martellotta divides the two souls of the city: the more touristic in Rione Monti, and the most authentic in Aia Piccola. Choose what to visit first but do not miss the amazing sunset over the Trulli from one of its terraces.
Cycling from Alberobello to Montalbano
about 30km
After breakfast you will leave Alberobello to cycle along the so-called "Pirro’s Channel", a wide and fertile karst trough dominated by strictly linear vineyards crops.
Going downhill towards the sea you will reach the beautiful historic centre of Fasano. Here you can relax visiting the original Museum of the Fasano House, that keeps objects and daily utensils once used in the area.
After Fasano you will cycle on a stretch of the Via Traiana bike path, the ancient road once connection from Rome to its main Adriatic port: Brindisi. There is a short detour that will take you to the Dolmen of Montalbano, one of the megalithic monuments best preserved in Apulian lands.
And finally you will reach your Masseria in the middle of olive trees for a well-deserved rest.
Cycling from Masseria to Ostuni
about 20km
Today’s stage will initially take you to ride within the Natural Park Dune Costiere. The territory of this area preserves numerous natural habitats, is complex and consists of fossil dunes as well as long and beautiful beaches, a thick Mediterranean scrub, water mirrors and wetlands where they lodge migratory species. The area, besides its naturalistic importance, is known for its historical heritage, thanks to the presence of numerous archaeological sites, masserie and underground oil mills, rock settlements, and much more.
From the park beaches you will come up the top of the hill where Ostuni is, the White City par excellence; included a tasting olive oil stop in an ancient masseria-farm.
Ostuni is distinguished by the limestone whitening its houses gathered by mighty walls that gives the contour to its historical centre.
Leave your bicycles to try to move up the road from the Piazza della Libertà to the Cathedral losing yourself without fear among the hundreds of blind alleys, squares and small courtyards.
Cycling from Ostuni to Martina Franca
about 30km
Another day immersed in a fairy land, which in spring explodes in colours and scents of almond trees in bloom.
Halfway between Ostuni and Martina Franca, following the constant up and down, you will find Cisternino. This incredibly beautiful village recalls the oriental charm, which is reflected in its hidden alleys, unexpected arches, decorated balconies, courtyards and stairways. Nice place for a lunch break or an icecream, or even for a good coffee at a bar table enjoying a wonderful view of the valley.
You will spend the night in the city of San Martino: besides the arch of Santo Stefano along the main street a rich and elegant scenery of striking buildings and churches will open up. Here the typical Baroque becomes almost Rococò and combining with the white lime creates an entirely unique style full of exotic charm.
Cycling from Martina Franca to Alberobello
about 30 km
One last day cycling in the land of Trulli, surrounded by gentle undulations full of vineyards and cultivated fields.
After Martina Franca you will reach Locorotondo, small white village with a wonderful balcony overlooking the heart of the Itria Valley. Here the lands are devoted to the cultivation of vines, which with the help of the sun produce a fresh and light white wine of high quality: the Locorotondo Doc, that you will taste at a local winery.
Take back your bikes maybe after a careful culinary “research” in one of the small restaurants hidden in the centre. The last part of today will take you back to Alberobello, to spend the night in one of its Trulli house.
