Program

Day1

Benvenuti in Puglia

Welcome to Lecce

The first day of Apulia Vespa Holiday is dedicated to your welcome: Lecce will open its doors on your arrival.

Day2

Lecce and its coast by Vespa

60km by Vespa

You finally get into the heart of Puglia Vespa Tour, with the delivery of the Vespa and the itineraries to follow.
The first Vespa itinerary begins with a gastronomic stop at Lu furnu te la Masseria Giammatteo, where you can taste typical baked goods, before leaving for the Abbey of Santa Maria di Cerrate. The origin of Cerrate Abbey is between the 11th and 12th centuries: it is one of the most important monastic centers of the Byzantine rite of southern Italy. Over the centuries the monastery was transformed into an agricultural farm. Since 2012 it has been entrusted to the Italian Environment Fund (FAI) of the Province of Lecce.
After a recommended visit to the abbey, get back in the saddle to ride the Adriatic coast on your Vespa, from Torre Rinalda to Frigole. Sandy coasts, wind-sculpted tamarisks and the horizon of the sea, will be the companions of your Puglia Vespa Tour today.
Along the coast you can stop at the beach for a restorative bath, then return to Lecce for a local wine experience in a Bistrot in the late afternoon.
Overnight in Lecce.

Day3

Ride from Lecce to Gallipoli via Porto Cesareo

70km by Vespa

For the third day, the Puglia Vespa Tour includes an itinerary dedicated to the Ionian coast.
Starting from Lecce by Vespa, you travel the hinterland to visit to the main cultural centers, and then see the Ionio sea on the horizon.
The first stop of today's Puglia Vespa Tour is in Copertino, where you can admire the Castle in the village built by the military architect Evangelista on behalf of the Marquis Alfonso Castriota.
Among its alleys you can admire palaces and churches that reflect the different dominations that have occurred over the centuries: Greek, Swabian and Norman.
From here you reach the sea in the busy summer village of Porto Cesareo to continue south to the edge of the Natural Reserve of Porto Selvaggio, a true green lung between land and sea.
Then on your Vespa, you will ride through Santa Caterina and then Santa Maria al Bagno, ideal for a swim break.
Continuing on the Ionian coast, where the sun sets directly into the sea, you will arrive in Gallipoli: visit the old town, among churches in carparo stone and sea views, to know the soul of this city made of sea and fishermen.
Overnight in Gallipoli.

Day4

Loop around Gallipoli by Vespa

70km by Vespa

The Puglia Vespa Tour will introduce you to the surroundings of beautiful Gallipoli.
Ride towards Nardò, getting off the Vespa you will immediately notice that the old town here holds a rare beauty. The heart of Nardò is Piazza Salandra, and in its center is the spire of the Immaculate Conception. The square also overlooks other precious historic buildings: the Sedile with the statue of St. Gregorio Armeno, the Universitas building and the Caccialupi clock.
Also visit Galatina, where time is marked by the beat of the tambourines: here art and faith traditionally meet the dance of the taranta. Look for and visit the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, one of the most beautiful frescoed churches in Italy.
Return in Gallipoli for overnight.

Day5

Ride from Gallipoli to Vignacastrisi via Leuca

90km by Vespa

The beauty of travelling the "Peninsula Salentina" by Vespa is to coast two seas without getting off the saddle.
From Gallipoli, continuing south and after passing miles and miles of sandy shoreline, you can reach San Gregorio, in the marina of Patù. Once in Leuca, the Puglia Vespa Tour includes an hour-and-a-half stop over where you can take a boat ride with a cave excursion from the marina.
Low houses, prickly pears, dry stone walls, the Apulia Vespa holiday will give you this and much more. Around you the wonders and biodiversity of the Regional Park "Costa Otranto S.M. di Leuca - Bosco di Tricase".
You will spend the night in a charming historic residence, an ancient palace among the beauties of the old town in Vignacastrisi.

Day6

Loop Vignacastrisi - Otranto by Vespa

50km by Vespa

Today's Vespa route starts and ends in Vignacastrisi revealing green glades, hidden gardens and prehistoric stone monuments.
Riding your Vespa you can breathe the charm of a primordial story. Among the roads lined with olive trees and rural buildings, you will reach La Cutura, an important botanical garden which we recommend you visit, here you can admire eleven wonderful gardens, more than three thousand succulents and tropical plants. Then ride through Giurdignano and admire the Megalithic Garden of Salento and its peaceful land: numerous dolmens and menhirs scattered in the area that testify to the presence of man at the dawn of civilization.
Remember to take time to visit the beautiful Otranto (and its cathedral with a wonderful floor mosaic), which you will also pass by tomorrow.
Tonight dinner will be the result of your pasta making to which you will dedicate yourself in the late afternoon.
Second overnight stay in Vignacastrisi.

Day7

Ride from Vignacastrisi to Lecce by Vespa

85km by Vespa

From Vignacastrisi you will reconnect with one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Salento, which fascinates with its views of the sea, nature and the typical dry stone buildings of this area. Its ups and downs follow the course of the cliffs. There are plenty of places where you can take beautiful photos, go for a swim or have a bite to eat and a good coffee. Stop at a dairy for a visit and cheese tasting.
You will reach again the beautiful Otranto before diving into the countryside near the Alimini lakes, precious natural places in the Salento area, with an ecosystem that is home to various animal and plant species. Then back to the sea, with the possibility of swimming or having a nice picnic on the beach, in the villages of Torre dell'Orso or San Foca.
The last part of the Puglia Vespa Tour takes you back inland and before reaching Lecce you will cross the WWF Reserve of Le Cesine. Le Cesine is a Natural Oasis characterized by the presence of flora and fauna with high biodiversity. Aleppo pines, Mediterranean scrub, birds, insects, reptiles, bring to life this beautiful natural area and its sounds will accompany you for much of the journey.
Then Acaya, medieval village, in the center of which is the castle, built in 1535 by Gian Giacomo d’Acaya. The castle is surrounded by a deep moat with a single bridge and surrounded by rectangular walls. The medieval era envelops every corner of this small but delightful village.
Back in the saddle, return to Lecce for the delivery of the Vespa and the last overnight.

Day8

Arrivederci Puglia

Awakening in Lecce in another beautiful historic palace.
